4 Step Instruction On How To Start Online Business

October 19, 20203 min read

Everyday marketing becomes more and more complex, trying to fulfill the needs of modern society. Facebook ads, content marketing, Youtube channels, blogs and vlogs, lead magnets, sales videos, webinars, social media marketing, Tik-Tok, WordPress…

These are not just some brand new words of 2020, these are the tools that help you launch and promote business online. If you feel frustrated just by reading all these words, if you have a hazy idea from where to start a business online, here is a 4-step instruction.

1

Extract Your Expertise

The first and primary step to take is to identify your superpower. By superpower, we mean a particular set of skills and experience that makes you unique in your niche. Write down 2-3 stories that were turning points in your life. List 3 things that make you stand out from the competition.

This will help you to find out the answers to questions such as:

  • How are you different from your competitors?

  • What things do you need to outsource?

  • What is the foundation for your business?

Identify Your Ideal Customer

This is one of the most important steps for your online business. If you don’t have a proper understanding of who your ideal client is, you won’t be able to deliver that “perfect future’’ for your customer. So, to clear the picture, think about:

  • Where is your ideal customer right now?

  • Where do they want to be?

  • How can your product help them to get from their “before” to their “after”?

  • What is your ideal client’s status?

  • What are their goals, dreams, values?

2

You can go deeper and think about what sources of information they have been using, what books or magazines they read, what pages they follow on their social media accounts etc. That information will be very helpful for you later in copywriting (posts, ads, emails) and targeting (interests, placement, location).

Craft Your Offer & Product

When you are done with the previous steps, it’s time to create your offer by building a value proposition. The value proposition is what outlines how your product or service creates value for a specific customer segment.

It’s simply what attracts customers to do business with you. Make a research on your competitors and make a better offer. Use all the information you gathered to customize your offer, which will answer the main questions and solve the major problems for your ideal customer.

Also, one of the most controversial steps is to set up the correct pricing. Remember to never price your product or service lower than an average market price. When you make your content free or cheap, people are less likely to trust it and have low expectations for a result.

Map Out Your Marketing Funnel

Funnel is the customer’s journey from the “awareness” stage (when they first learn about your product) to the “purchase” stage (when they fall in love with your business and buy your product/service).

It can appear in different forms, both informative and entertaining, starting from sales videos and quizzes, ending up with articles and polls. To build a funnel you would need software, which is usually one of the biggest expenses in the process, and a full understanding of your customer’s journey.

And one of the first things that you need to experience is... to see how it all works in action.
